Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $268,305)

Sea Research Foundation, Inc. supports the Immersion Presents After School Program. Immersion Presents offers high-quality academic programs in science and technology for informal learning and after-school settings. Immersion Presents takes advantage of cutting-edge technology developed by the Institute for Exploration and partially funded by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The program focuses on live broadcasts from actual, ongoing scientific research expeditions. Thirty-one museums and other institutions across the country, including Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, CT, the University of Rhode Island and the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH, participate in the program. The program targets upper elementary and middle school students, but general visitors to institutions participating in the program also have direct access to the research expeditions. Roughly 500,000 children are reached by Immersion Presents each year, and we expect the number of children reached to grow to 1.5 million children in the coming year. NCA/NCF
