Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $67,076)

Central City Action Committee (CCAC) is proposing a program that will offer opportunities for high-risk, poverty youth to participate in skill development activities and actual hands on job experience. Our proposed project will provide extensive training and work experience. Youth will receive counseling, leadership and business administration skills. They will be taught the proper use of tools and equipment and techniques of removing graffiti from various surfaces. The basic philosophy of the project would be to provide thirty (30) youth an opportunity to receive stipends and develop skills and at the same time increase their awareness of community involvement efforts. A graffiti abatement youth counselor will be hired and be responsible for the day-to-day direction and supervision of 30 (thirty) youth assigned to this project. However, on-going graffiti removal staff and CCAC's counselors will also be of assistance by working closely to assess the individuals needs, and provide necessary counseling and any other assistance that would complement this project's goals and objectives.
