The Community Ambassadors Project of the School of the Performing and Visual Arts at Plaza de la Raza will utilize grant resources to address needs of the at-risk youth population of the Lincoln Heights area of Los Angeles. Those needs include a lack of recreational and cultural activity, a need for a positive and safe environment and the need for an enhanced education through the study and practice of the arts. The Project will provide cultural arts training in the arts for local youth in a respected and controlled cultural environment. The youth will also develop learning and interpersonal skills through study, practice and performance. Project progress will be monitored by evaluating levels of achievement of the participants, the projected success of the touring component of the activity and measuring the impact of the project of the educational performance of the students, using statistical and annotated measures. Further, the center will conduct a collaborative study with local authorities, which will monitor the long-term goal of reducing community-wide juvenile delinquency. NCA/NCF
