Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $357,739)

This project will support partnerships between high schools with high dropout rates and proven 'turnaround partners' who have transformed similar schools around the nation. The long-term goal of this project is to transform all 35 dropout factories in the Greater Detroit area. The short-term goal of this project is based on Mass Insight's Turnaround Framework and will accomplish the following objectives at those schools: change conditions, increase capacity, and create clusters for success. The goal of this project is to transform the high schools with the worst graduation rates in these districts by matching them with a proven turnaround expert so that graduation rates increase to 80% in each school within five years.
