Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $44,717)

In January 2008, New York City's unemployment rate was reported at 5.7 which is an increase from 4.9 in January 2007. The Regional Training Center (RTC) provides skills training, job readiness, placement and retention services to aid youth in obtaining employment as the first step to independence. The RTC project will take an existing successful program and seek to increase the enrollment and completion in two skills training classes through the payment of bi-weekly stipends during training. The two training programs selected are the A+ Certification and Bank Teller; the first because it is a new training Covenant House wants to expand and the second because of career advancement potential for the youth. Upon completion of training, the goal is to place 85% of those graduated in jobs utilizing their new skills. NCA/NCF
