Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $389,041)

This award will enable Phoenix House to improve treatment access via targeted outreach to family and drug treatment courts, schools, family centers, child welfare agencies and other community based organizations. To effectively intervene with teens, outreach specialists will conduct screenings and assessments at Phoenix House admissions offices and off-site locations. These specialists will identify and engage hard to reach youth who are struggling with alcohol and drug dependence and connect them with Phoenix House's residential Academies in Westchester and on Long Island. These efforts will enable additional youth to receive evidence based therapies, individual and group counseling, life skills training, case management, recreational therapy, education and vocational training. At the Academy, teens will stabilize a healthy drug-free lifestyle and in turn, reduce delinquency and recidivism in the criminal justice system. NCA/NCF
