Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $44,717)

The Learning Center After-School Program will be ongoing, providing activities 2:30-7pm daily, and on Saturdays from 9-2 pm. The project intends to serve 60 students from one local middle school and one local high school who are academically low-performing and have high incidences of gang activity in/out of school. Services will include a tech lab, tutoring and homework assistance and recreation, ensuring that youth have a safe place to gather after school and are encouraged to stay in school and take responsibility for their lives and their community. The grantee will track students' retention in their school and program, grades, matriculation rates and their behaviors. Funds will also support the hiring of a Program Coordinator. NCA/NCF
