Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $223,587)

The City of Hoboken seeks to reach out to teenagers through activities to provide alternatives to at-risk behavior. Hoboken has instituted a Save the Youth (STY) program with the assistance of previous OJJDP funding. The program's purpose is to provide Hoboken's youth with innovative and creative outlets as an alternative to at-risk behaviors that could lead to juvenile delinquency within the City of Hoboken. Through positive encouragement and instruction, Hoboken's teens will have an opportunity to become part of the STY program's music and video production, and dance programs. The STY program will consist of two successful components, the HIP HOP dance program and the Music Production Studio; additionally, the Music Production Studio program will expand to include video production. Classes for each component will be after school, five days a week at the Hoboken Boys & Girls Club. The program seeks to serve at least 100 students and progress will be measured by the number of students attending the classes. NCA/NCF
