Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $89,435)
The City of Lumpkin will implement the Future Stars after-school program to serve elementary school students in rural West Central Georgia. The program will provide opportunities for academic enrichment, prevention services, and youth development activities that build resiliency. A curriculum will also be designed to decrease at-risk behavior among youth. The project will be available four days a week for 38 weeks to 150 students. Also, the parents of students will engage in educational activities that increase literacy and employability skills. The program will report performance measures that include improved school attendance, improved academic performance, and a decrease in delinquent behavior. NCA/NCF
