Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $469,494)

The City of San José will provide socialization and support services to gang-involved youth and families at four designated community centers. Services will be provided during the late-night hours after the centers have been closed to the general public. In addition, the City will collaborate with County Juvenile probation to take referrals into the anti-graffiti program. This program will provide referred juvenile offenders with alternatives to incarceration. Activities will include removing graffiti throughout the city and in-class life-skills training. Performance measures will include participant satisfaction, change in delinquent behaviors, gang involvement, and recidivism (tagging). NCA/NCF
