Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $22,359)
As a community, East Wheeling has come together with Wheeling police to fight an ongoing battle with street drug trafficking and to rehabilitate some housing for home owners. The project will work with youth on the prevention front to nurture the human resources needed to build a stronger community. With the aid of talented local youth workers, Nelson Jordan will anchor after school and summertime programming needed for middle-school and high school students. The center has ties with local resources that will support this effort-from Ohio County Schools to Wheeling Jesuit University and local high school honors students. The Nelson Jordan Center will work with youth, tutoring them in math and reading skills and adding to their personal resilience through discussions on life skills and building their physical competence.
