An Achievable Dream, Inc. (AAD) is a public/private partnership operating within the Newport News, Virginia Public School System whose focus is to provide at-risk students with the skills and tools they will need to complete school and become successful adults, citizens and workers. AAD will continue to address the special needs of the students by implementing an after-school project for selected students. This project will provide students with academic support including tutoring services and recreational activities in a safe and secure environment. Funds from this grant will support the extended day and extended year program at AAD. It is intended that the additional time will assist students in meeting or exceeding state and local standards in the core academic areas and provide safety for students through the extended supervised time. The target population will be K-12 graders and will serve approximately 1,150 students. The School of Education, the College of William and Mary will continue conducting the evaluation for Achievable Dream. Evaluation components include: academic achievement, attendance, behavior, culture and climate, and parent satisfaction. NCA/NCF
