Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $402,457)

The Richmond Police Activities League (RPAL) has created the RPAL One-Stop Youth Center to provide a safe environment for youth to congregate after school. Activities offered at the Center will address academics, employment, soft skills, support service and recreational needs of youth in one centralized location. The Center will provide a comprehensive service delivery system to 50 low-income Richmond African-American males ages 14 ' 18, Monday through Saturday afternoons and evenings. Participants will participate in daily tutorial/academic preparedness, life skills/topic-specific workshops, job search, vocational training and recreational activities. The Center aims to reduce youth violence in West Contra Costa, increase basic skills, increase high school and post secondary credential attainment, and provide livable wage employment opportunities through this program. Program success will be measured through program attendance, academic performance, recidivism rate among offenders, and employment attainment among participants. NCA/NCF
