Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $347,007)

Studies indicate that peak times for delinquency occur when youth violate probation and/or commit new offenses after school and early evening. The Evening Reporting Center (ERC) seeks to intervene during this peak time and provide supervised, structured and positive educational and recreational activities on weekdays from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Activities include preventative services through cognitive behavior management and increase developmental assets while stressing accountability and social responsibility. The goal of the Evening Reporting Center is to serve as a less restrictive sanction in the continuum of services for high-risk youth who are failing within the criminal justice system and further detention is imminent. Success will be measured by the reduced number of violations of probation that result in juvenile hall detention as well as the number of new arrests within three months of program completion.
