Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $268,305)
The state of Utah has experienced an explosion of growth and change in its demographics over the last five years. The results include a growing trend in school failure and juvenile issues that often accompany delinquency. The purpose of Prevention Plus (+) is to produce system improvement by training school-based teams to use and respond to data to prevent juvenile delinquency. Six schools across three Utah counties will participate in Prevention+ with approximately 170 faculty members trained over one year. The goals of the program are: improve faculty access to students' academic and behavioral information via the district data systems; enhance early identification of students who are academically and/or behaviorally at-risk for school failure and juvenile delinquency and improve faculty data-based decision making skills to choose evidence based interventions. Performance will be measured by tracking; a) the percentage of faculty trained in the use of their data system, b) the percentage of faculty trained in academic and behavioral screening, c) the percentage of faculty who complete academic and behavioral data-based decision making training, and (d) the change in the percentage of students classified as at-risk.
