Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $254,889)

Ocean Tides has a very unique admissions program, in which the student body is made up entirely of adjudicated male youth from the State of Rhode Island. They come to the Narragansett residential program through the combined efforts of the Rhode Island Family Court, DCYF and Ocean Tides School. This program is to help at-risk boys, aged 14 ' 18 years old, through a school and residential program tailored to the individual. Residents represent a non-denominational population and the average length of stay at Ocean Tides is one year. Each youth is worthy of respect, needful of care, and capable of success through everyday experiences and interactions in a highly structured program and is provided a coordinated treatment program, integrating all aspects of life. The program is flexible enough to meet the treatment needs of a range of youths, helping young people face up to their shortcomings and needs by providing a blend of direction, correction and affirmation. In this way the youngster may re-enter his community's life at peace, and in stages that provide necessary supports while developing self-sufficiency. This program will be monitored and an evaluation plan incorporated to further address the need and the value added to the communities being served through this unique residential program. NCA/NCF
