Youth will participate in New Directions for Youth's (NDY) job training programs including career education, workforce development, basic skills training workshops, internships, and computer and Internet training. Through NDY's School-Based Supervision and Community Delinquency Prevention programs probationers will be transported via NDY's fleet of vans to NDY's facilities, five days per week, for structured after-school programs. The goal of the program is to reduce juvenile recidivism by promoting positive youth development. NDY's after-school enrichment, recreation, and prevention programs will focus on the specific needs and interests of hundreds of young women between the ages of 9 ' 14. Young people and their families will be referred to appropriate health services by New Directions for Youth's staff. NDY will work closely with the Los Angeles Probation Department and the LAPD to identify youth and adults to fulfill their court mandated community service hours by removing graffiti and picking up trash throughout the San Fernando Valley.
