Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $89,435)

The Asian Youth Center will provide 100 underserved low-income and immigrant students in grades 8'12, with activities through the Teen Leadership College/Career (TLCC) Preparation Program in a safe and supervised after-school environment over a two year period. Activities will include: academic enrichment and English language literacy, college preparation, career preparation, leadership development, and community service opportunities. The purpose of the TLCC Program is to provide youth who are at-risk of dropping out of school, participating in gang activites, and other criminal involvement with alternative activities and opportunities that will help them avoid delinquency, academic failure, criminal involvement and/or victimization. Progress will be measured by attendance, units of service, school performance and attendance, grades, graduation, and post-secondary school activities, participant arrest or re-arrest rates, and local crime data.
