Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $67,076)

World Impact, Inc. seeks to prevent gang involvement through the implementation of a youth camping program. The gang-prevention camping program will facilitate improved parental supervision by giving families opportunities to build healthy family relationships in a safe, relaxing environment and by allowing youth to spend time in healthy social situations with adult role models from whom they will receive beneficial reinforcement. In addition, the camping program will provide young people opportunities to envision a values-based purpose in life. Youth will participate in intellectually stimulating and physically challenging activities: including sports competitions, performing arts, crafts, and outdoor education classes. Progress towards the project goals will be measured by camp attendance, program hours completed, youth arrests and resistance to gang involvement. NCA/NCF
