The Salinas Police Department, in collaboration with the Sheriff's Office, Probation Department, and District Attorney's Office of Monterey County, will work to intensify gang enforcement throughout Monterey County. The Joint Gang Task Force (GTF) Policy Committee has directed that funds be used to support one Salinas Police Officer and one Deputy Sheriff assigned to the GTF to target juvenile gang members and associates under the age of eighteen. The GTF will utilize a variety of enforcement techniques, both proactive and reactive, to accomplish their goal of reducing gang violence countywide. Performance measures will include the number of arrests and prosecutions of gang members. In addition, prevention and intervention efforts will be measured by the number of counseling sessions and public presentations conducted by law enforcement personnel in an effort to divert youths from gangs.
