Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $895,034)
Furman University, University of South Carolina, Clemson University, and College of Charleston are four South Carolina universities that experience high rates of binge drinking and negative consequences of underage and high-risk drinking. The Palmetto Initiative for Campus/Community Collaborations (PICCC) seeks to bolster these comprehensive, data-driven efforts by bringing all available resources to bear on this problem. The selected interventions ' which will probably include increased enforcement (such as compliance checks and public safety checkpoints), increased marketing of alcohol safety messages and materials, and increased promotion of responsible beverage service training ' will reduce underage and binge drinking as measured on the CORE Survey. The results will be reduced alcohol-related incidences, traffic injuries, and other intentional injuries as measured by law enforcement and campus health center data. State-level staff will support the university/community collaborations in multiple ways, such as providing training, networking, and technical assistance. Successes will be shared with other colleges and universities around the state. CA/NCF
