Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $300,000)

The Karuk Tribe of California will implement the Tribal Youth Program as part of the Yav Pa'anav (The Medicine is Good) Wellness Forum. The program will serve Karuk Tribe juveniles ages 17 and younger who reside in the Karuk Tribe's service area: located in the four communities that are home to the majority of tribal members. The program will provide a comprehensive system of care to better assist Karuk Tribal members and their families with youth delinquency and behavioral health issues and to improve coordination between juvenile justice and the behavioral health service providers. Performance measures will include the number of program youth, families, and staff satisfied with the program; number of staff who receive software and case management training; and a reduction in the number of juvenile delinquent incidents perpetrated by program participants.
