Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2007, $300,000)

The Klamath Tribes propose to improve their tribal juvenile justice system. Both the Klamath Tribes and the Oregon Court recognize the importance of having Klamath youth adjudicated within Tribal Court, which serve any juvenile who is enrolled or enrollable in the Klamath Tribes. This project will assist the Tribal Court in building its capacity and provide resources to the court to write code, establish policies and protocols, and support critical staff time to enable the court to handle an increased caseload. Performance measures for this project will include: the code, policies and procedures established by the tribal juvenile justice system, the number of cases transferred from State to Tribal Court, and a decrease in the juvenile delinquency rate.
