Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $197,446)
The North Shore Community College will implement the community based Lynn Gang Prevention Initiative to youth age 10-14 in Lynn, Massachusetts. The primary goals are to 1) mobilize and unite community resources to create effective strategies to reduce youth gang violence; 2) to increase positive decision making in participating youths; 3) to improve quality assurance of direct service providers; 4) increase parent advocacy skills; and 5) increase community awareness of gang violence and related resources. The primary activities will be 1) a violence prevention task force; 2) the provision of a gang prevention program for at risk middle school students; 3) development of a youth worker or Streetworker curriculum and certification program; 4) parent education programming; and 5) community outreach and education.
