Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $148,084)

The cities of Kingston and Newburgh, New York will implement a direct service prevention program; Afterschool is Power Project, for youth age 6-17 in the City of Newburgh. The primary goal is to increase participation in pro-social, structured after-school activities. Project activities include: 1) intensive homework and tutoring support; 2) non-English speaking language support; 3) job preparedness and life skills; 4) experiential educational; 5) technology access and web-based activities; 6) cultural and arts programs; 7) sports and recreation; 8) civic engagement and volunteerism; and 9) environmental education. City of Kingston will track progress by reporting performance measures to OJJDP such as improvement in school attendance and percentage of youth who offend. NCA/NCF
