Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $212,254)

Jackson County will implement intervention and prevention strategies targeting underage drinking. The target population is middle and high school students in Jackson County. The project goals are to: 1) increase awareness and knowledge regarding substance and alcohol use/abuse; 2) increase direct services based in the courts, schools, and community; and 3) assess the needs of the community related to substance and alcohol use/abuse. The primary activities will be community service projects, 8th grade school curriculum on underage drinking, educational programs for youth with alcohol, tobacco and other drug citations, and a resiliency program for youth referred by youth courts or schools. Jackson County will report performance measures to OJJDP in their Categorical Assistance Progress Reports. NCA/NCF
