Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $98,723)
The Women's Treatment Center's main objective is to decrease the negative impact of parental incarceration on children. Their goal is to keep incarcerated mothers in contact with their children as well as to provide support services to assist children and caregivers in coping with the effects of parental incarceration.
Under this award The Women's Treatment Center (TWTC) will operate its Parents and Children Together (PACT) Program. The program has three goals: 1) to keep incarcerated mothers at the Decatur Women's Correctional Facility in contact with their children in the Chicago area; 2) to provide these children with skills for coping with the effects of parental incarceration; and 3) to ensure that the children and their caregivers receive needed support services. The first goal is achieved through the use of videoconferencing equipment, which allows mothers and their children regular contact. The second is achieved through monthly skill-building sessions. The third is achieved by linking families to community-based health, mental health and social service agencies as needed. NCA/NCF
