Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $98,723)

Orange County's Rec n Roll program is a mobile recreation unit created to bring activities/sports to 'park poor' neighborhoods and to teach kids cooperation, self-efficiency, respect, responsibility, and community pride through planned activities. The goal of the program is emphasize the importance of effective communication, maintaining good sportsmanship, developing a team concept and being knowledgeable of game rules and regulations. The program targets over 2,400 school age children that live in the area. The performance measures of the program will be measured based on attendance (minimum of 25 youth per site), 75% of registrants participating on a weekly basis, and both parent and youth program satisfaction surveys completed semi-annually.
