Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $98,723)

The S.E. Tidewater Opportunity Program (STOP) will implement the educational intervention program, Youth in Crisis, with youth age 14-18 who are suspended from the public school system in Norfolk, Virginia. The primary goal is to increase academic achievement and attainment, increase access to educational settings, and to increase graduation or GED attainment rates. The primary activities include 1) the provision of a safe educational setting; 2) tutoring; 3) collaborative meetings with parents and students; 4) group sessions on life skills, anger management, and self-respect; 5) computer training.
