Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $148,042)
The purpose of this program is to provide twenty students (half from New York, half from the Catskill Region) with instruction in and access to cutting-edge digital photography and video production equipment. All students in this program will receive a full scholarship. Under the supervision of professional video artists and photographers, who will be provided by our partners on this project (International Center of Photography and Educational Video Center, both of New York City), teens will develop their own work that will then be made available for public viewing at CMF's Main Street gallery and will be shown in its movie theater, as well as the lobbies of the New Orpheum in Tannersville and the Bouwerie Lane Theatre in New York City. Works will also be included in a book to be printed by CMF, which currently publishes the Catskill Mountain Region Guide ' a four-color monthly magazine highlighting arts and cultural events with a circulation of approximately 30,000. Ultimately, the Digital Media Program is about more than just teaching students skills that will give them a competitive edge in today's job market, but a way to nurture their creativity, self-worth and self-esteem.
