Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $24,681)
The City of Los Angeles' Ramona Hall Community Center (RHCC) will utilize grant funds to enhance its existing music program for boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 17. Approximately 150 youth in Highland Park, an economically disadvantaged neighborhood of Los Angeles, will be able to take music lessons through this program. This program will provide a much-needed art-based (non-sport) activity for the children to participate in after school hours. Through careful and insightful instruction, the program aims to encourage students to explore musical instrument(s) of choice through regularly scheduled music lessons year-round. Students will be encouraged to express themselves through their music as well as be trained on how to read music, and learn the appropriate way to hold/handle their instrument. Student progress and program evaluation will be observed throughout the year at recitals. The grantee will report on performance measures such as number of youth served, and number of youth demonstrating targeted behaviors to OJJDP. NCA/NCF
