The purpose of this program is to enable District Attorney Kamala D. Harris's Office to partner with Visitacion Valley community organizations and public agencies to implement the Community Response Network ('CRN') model that was successfully developed and implemented in San Francisco's Mission District and is currently being developed in the Bayview Hunters Point community. This model draws from OJJDP's Comprehensive Gang Model and from the Boys and Girls Clubs' Gang Prevention/Intervention Through Targeted Outreach model to create a neighborhood collaborative that provides crisis intervention, coordinated case management and street outreach to address gang, set and turf violence as it happens and prevent future violence and escalation through on-street presence and case management of affiliated youths. Members of the Mission CRN will provide training and technical support to the Visitacion Valley collaborative. The project will commence with six months of collaborative planning following by 12 months of implementation, during which 20 high-risk youths will receive intensive case management, and the CRN team will provide crisis management to 40 youths and families and semi-monthly late-night street outreach.
