The New Mexico Police Athletic League will serve as the lead agency in a four-state Coalition of State Police Athletic Leagues (PALs) in dealing with escalating gang violence, drive-by shootings and drug-related murders significantly impacting their respective communities. The overall purpose of the Coalition will be to expand statewide recreational and educational activities for at risk-youth to include an Anti-Gang Initiative program that will focus on delinquency intervention. Each state PAL will be open to all youth between the ages of six and eighteen, and their families, with special outreach efforts targeting at-risk youth. Evidence based data will be collected under a best practice module to measure the effectiveness of the program to include addressing outcomes impacting the number of youth participating in specified programs and the number of youth demonstrating changes in targeted behaviors.
