Prospect Park Alliance youth programs engage teenagers from Brooklyn's diverse inner-city neighborhoods in the care and stewardship of Brooklyn's flagship Park. Activities that are part of the program include the Youth Council, a weekly after-school leadership development program, and three Crews of the Youth Employment Program ' the Park Youth Reps, Woodlands Youth Crew, and Community Youth Organizers. The goals of the program are to provide leadership training, lessons in teamwork and community service, work experience, and education about the natural and urban environment. Involvement in the program provides invaluable opportunities to young people as they move toward adulthood amidst the challenges of inner city life, while performing essential services for Prospect Park and its visitors. These programs serve 100 teens aged 14 to 20 from diverse backgrounds. Performance measures and progress toward the program goals is measured through tracking attendance and volunteer hours, through participant surveys, and through staff observation.
