Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $98,723)

This OJJDP earmark grant will support a community-based alternative program to traditional court processing designed to impose immediate sanctions on first-time, non-violent offenders. In particular, the program intervention is expected to result in family strengthening and delinquency reduction. Components of the intervention include communication and decision making skill training for the offenders and 'Parenting Wisely' training for parents. The program promotes family bonding and offender accountability to victims and communities. The program is called 'RECONNECT' ' duration of each session is four consecutive Saturdays (9 am to 4 pm).
