Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2006, $691,060)

The 16th Judicial District of Louisiana will expand and evaluate the Early Intervention Program (EIP). This school-based program is designed to address behavioral problems of at-risk children in elementary schools to prevent juvenile delinquency. The program will promote the use of best practices, conduct conferences with teachers, parents and counselors, develop training materials and provide technical assistance. The program will report on performance measures under two categories: The Direct Program Services - Projections: 400 children & families to be served; 250 youth and families to be served with best practice prevention model; 2,000 counseling sessions with children enrolled in EIP and 5,750 to be monitored by case managers. The Reserach and Development - Projections: 45 schools and 330 children to participate in the evaluation, and five products and publications. Additional services include: tutoring, mentoring, an academic assistance program that focuses on the importance of the parent's role in their child's education, and summer enrichment programs.
