Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $75,000)
The University of Hawaii Truancy Reduction Demonstration Program - Project PACT (Partnering to Access and Counteract Truancy) will continue to implement the early intervention/prevention program focusing on elementary students and their families at Kamaile and Maili. The underlying theme is to address family needs and factors contributing to the students' absenteeism. The program's key components include the following: early identification; team modeling at the school level; written, individualized plans with intervention goals, objectives, and activities; warm and caring paraprofessional who interacts with the students; and parent-family involvement. The program will continue to monitor 60 students and their families; perform intensive follow-up on 20-30 students; and submit data to the national evaluation the Colorado Foundation for Families and Children (CFFC) 'Re-Engaging Youth in School. CFC will continue the evaluation of the truancy reduction projects by connecting process data to program-specific outcomes. CA/NCF
