Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $400,000)

The National Center for School Engagement (an initiative of the Colorado Foundation for Families and Children) has two primary goals: (1) to continue and complete the evaluation of program interventions funded through OJJDP's Truancy Reduction Demonstration Program in four sites (Jacksonville, FL; King County, WA; Houston, TX and Waianae, HI); and (2) to use the the evaluation findings to develop and disseminate products and trainings for the field. To accomplish these goals, NCSE will complete follow-up evaluation activities for the quasi-experimental design sites and continue process evaluation activities in all sites. NCSE will use the evaluation findings and other research to identify a set of promising interventions implemented by these projects and will develop 'next practices' for communities with truancy reduction programs already in place. NCSE will produce written and web-based materials and training to assist in the development of effective community-based truancy reduction programs. CA/NCF
