Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $221,995)
This award is to provide funds to the Memorial Child Guidance Clinic to administer the ChildSAVE Program for children witnessing and/or experiencing violence in Richmond's East End. The Memorial Guidance Clinic is central Virginia's premier community-based mental health provider for children. The Clinic has more than 275 cases open at any given time and receives over 3,000 visits annually. The ChildSAVE project will establish a team of three full time masters level mental health clinicians, a licensed clinician social worker/project coordinator, and a board certified consulting psychiatrist to effectively address the needs of child victims of violence. These staff members will be trained to provide on-site assessment and ongoing treatment and will be available to respond to children and families in the East End when incidents of violence or trauma occur or are discovered. This team will work as a collaborative partner with Richmond City Police and the city's Second Responders. In addition to on-site assessments, the ChildSAVE project clinicians will do outreach for follow-up services in the community. NCA/NCF
