Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $493,322)
Youth Crime Watch of America's (YCWA's) programs promote student leadership, produce cost-effective crime prevention programming; increase self-esteem, motivation, and school spirit; cultivate youth-law enforcement relationships; promote effective crime reporting practices among students; teach organization, responsibility, and accountability; and foster good citizenship. In FY 2005, YCWA will continue reaching more young people with the help of regional Expansion Centers and through new information technologies including the website, CD-ROM materials, and the continuation of a youth development initiative that builds the skills and characteristics of leaders to engage the individual youth in reducing crime, violence, and drugs while dramatically transforming their lives and the lives of others. The overarching goals for this project are: Supporting Expansion in Expansion Center and Non-Expansion Center States, Technical Assistance and Training for Vibrant New and Existing Sites, Communicating Youth-Led Prevention Stories and Messages, Developing Young Leaders, Using Relevant Evaluation, and Provifing Effective and Efficient Administration.
