Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $73,998)

This FY05 earmark award will support the Children and Youth Advocacy Project. This project will enhance and support services to youth, through networking, public awareness, and promotion of programs that make a difference in their lives.

This project is intended to 1) increase the number of youth who do not engage in the risky behaviors of teen sex, alcohol, tobacco or other drug use; 2) reduce the incident of teenage pregnancy and repeat teen births; 3) reduce the number students who miss 10 or more days of school each year; 4) increase the percentage of students who graduate high school on time and 5) reduce the rates of substantiated child abuse and neglect.

Mitchell County Children and Youth (MCCY) will plan and implement educational programs and activities and collaborate with partners in the community who serve children and youth. MCCY will provide the framework for networking, communicating, and improving public awareness to promote child and youth development.
