Wayne County will implement a teen court that will divert first time minor offenders with the goal of reducing arrests and providing juveniles with a real life experience about the judicial system. Wayne County will implement a teen jury system recruiting youth volunteers from three Wayne county high schools. The volunteer high school students will receive training on how to conduct themselves as jurors. The jury will determine the appropriate disposition to be imposed. Upon successful completion of the disposition, a petition against the arrested youth will not be pursued. Wayne County has determined which offenses are eligible for teen court processing. Wayne County will report performance measures that include recidivism of juvenile arrestees and satisfaction of the youth court volunteers.NCA/NCF
