Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $468,656)

The Boys and Girls Home Residential Treatment center will provide after school education programming and wrap-around supportive services for 90 at-risk youth in five different after-school program sites throughout Iowa. This program will target primarily middle school and high school youth who are at risk of failing to complete their education. This after-school program will improve school performance and pro-social skills, allow the large population of Hispanic children and families to become more invested in their community, and allow juveniles returning from out-of-home placements to successfully reintegrate back into their community. These goals will be accomplished through various performance measures, including 1) a notable increase in attendance at the program; 2) increased academic performance for participating youth; 3) a notable increase in the number of Spanish speaking families accessing health and human services; 4) an increase in regular school attendance and success; and 5) an increase in the number of at-risk youth involved in healthy out-of-school activities.NCA/NCF
