The purpose of this Parent Engagement Project is to implement the project in four geographically dispersed communities in the United States by disseminating up-to-date, scientifically based information and parenting strategies to community members; organizing local coalitions of cooperating community organizations at two of the sites and work through media channels at the other two sites; and convince parents to adopt strategies to reduce the impact of media violence on their children. Performance measures include 1) parents' opinions about the effects of media violence on their child and on children in general; 2) the degree to which the parents monitor and guide their children's media use and, specifically, their control of their children's exposure to media violence; and 3) parents' perceptions of the extent of the problem of violent behavior in their child's school and their perceptions of their own child's problems with violent behavior.
