Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $98,045)
The Women's Sports Foundation operates the New Hampshire GoGirlGo! Initiative, a program designed to use sport/physical activity programs to educate 6,600 girls statewide (ages 8 to 18) about the importance of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle. The primary goal of the New Hampshire GoGirlGo! Initiative is to encourage adolescent girls to be physically active and avoid risky health behaviors that may lead to juvenile delinquency. The program's strategy will have two major components: (1) cash grants to enable lower socio-economic and underserved girls to participate in sports or physical activity programming, and (2) the provision of a free Women's Sports Foundation 2004 National Health Information curriculum that changes girls' attitudes toward physical inactivity and other risky health behaviors. Performance outcomes will include changes in girls' attitudes in seven topic areas: 1) guilt about eating, 2) depression, 3) junk food, 4) avoidance of cigarettes, 5) general health, 6) drug use and 7) overall confidence. These attitudes will be measured by annual surveys sent to a sample of GoGirlGo! participants.NCA/NCF
