Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $197,329)

The purpose of this Juvenile Crime Prevention Project is to augment services that prevent youth ages 10-17 at high risk of delinquency from involvement in the juvenile system. Services will include drug and alcohol assessment, education, and treatment; Spanish language parent education; cognitive skill development for youth; and structured after school activities. All services will target risk factors associated with delinquency and build on strengths of the youth and their families. The project intends to serve 108 individual youth and 40 families over a two-year period. Performance measures include 1) 80% of parents will report enhanced parenting skills and satisfaction with the program; 2) 80% of those youth who are served by the after school program will not be referred for a delinquency offense while enrolled; and 3) percentage of youth enrolled in the after school program will show improved school attendance.
