The Lea County Detention Center's Juvenile Behavioral Modification Program will provide expanded mental health services to approximately 12 to 15 youth a month (ages 13 and 17 years old). The program's goal is to reduce participants' recidivism rates by providing youth with social skills training, mental health counseling, and continuity of care upon release. The program's strategy is to (1) provide incarcerated youth with mental health assessments; (2) introduce youth to socialization skills and offer group counseling; and (3) identify and schedule ongoing social services youth will need upon release from the Detention Center.
