Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2004, $296,835)
Operation QT (Quality Time), Inc., is a nonprofit organization established to provide positive activities during non school hours in 13 schools located in South and West Phoenix. QT will continue to provide funds to the schools that will serve children 6-18 and provide services in a safe, supervised setting. Additionally, the program will provide remedial education services, tutoring, recreational and positive peer relationship building. Program activities include: arts and crafts, computer classes, basketball, volleyball, aerobics, music and dance, gardening, and field trips. Each school has identified specific activities that will be provided at their respective site. However, the focus will be on reading and English; with volunteers from the community serving as tutors. Parents and students are encouraged to participate in English classes to enhance their academic and vocational skills. Families will be further strengthened by parent and child participation in the computer lab; in some instances, they envision children teaching their parents how to use the computer. Parents will learn new occupational skills, while sharing a hobby with their children. This year, the programs expect to serve approximately 850-900 students/families. NCA/NCF
