DuPage County Youth Mentoring Program

The ultimate goal of the program is to divert at-risk youth from negative societal influences such as gangs, substance abuse by improving their school attendance, academics, self-esteem, and personal relationships. This project will offer 18 youth the opportunity to participate in a Peer Mentoring Project. The peer mentors will provide youth with positive role models to become successful adults who can make positive contributions in their community. The youth will be provided outreach, information, referral, education, training and a support system. The project will allow it's participants the opportunity to mentor at-risk youth living in communities of diverse ethnicities, high crime areas, high-density populations, immigrants, and/or suburban middle class working poor. This project will also impact subsequent underlying issues of academic weakness, juvenile delinquency and gang participation, conduct disorder, school dropout rates, and family dysfunction. NCA/NCF
