Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2005, $1,024,984)
This award is to provide funding for the National Juvenile Justice Data Analysis Project (NJJDAP). Since 1990, OJJDP has worked with the National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ) to maximize OJJDP's role as a data collector and disseminator of juvenile justice statistics. Through this partnership, OJJDP launched its online Statistical Briefing Book, produces an annual Juvenile Arrests bulletin, and supports a number of small studies which conduct secondary analysis of data which has relevance to the field of juvenile justice prevention, intervention and treatment. The NJJDAP also takes the lead in producing OJJDP's Juvenile Offenders and Victims National Report. With this award, the NJJDAP will continue to address OJJDP's information needs in a cost-efficient manner, taking advantage of the information potential of existing databases to produce and disseminate information on a wide range of topics to a diverse audience. By the end of the current budget period, OJJDP will have released Juvenile Offenders and Victims: 2006 National Report. With this major task completed, the project will return its attention to expanding the Statistical Briefing Book (including the family of Easy Access applications), conducting original research, and responding to information requests from OJJDP and the field. One specific research task included in this award is a study of the effects of incident characteristics on Juvenile Court Decision-making. Also included in this award are some funds budgeted for tasks yet to be completely defined, in order to provide OJJDP and the project with the flexibility of responding to developing unanticipated information needs.
